Social Conference with an Internet Twist

I observed a room full of people experience a social media epiphany during the Social Media Strategies Summit in Las Vegas this week. Most people think social media is something you only do on a computer or a mobile device but it is so much more than that. Social media is social, it is about the human behind the machine, the human you are learning from or teaching to. The person sitting next to you may not have social media or marketing in their professional title but don't be surprised when you find out they use Facebook and Twitter to decide which vehicle they are going to buy or which college they are going to let their son/daughter attend.

"But you mentioned a social conference with an Internet twist in your title!". You're right I did. Because that is what the GSMI conference was about, it was was being social. It is about social professionals from all avenues; non-profits, small and large business, technology, and lawyers getting to know each other. We are exchanging (digital) cards and gauging which companies and individuals have goals and ideals that match what our own companies need. We are eating lunch and dinner together. Going to see baby dolphins in the dolphin habitat ( thank you Mirage!!) with those same people.

So am I attending a social media strategy conference? Yes, I suppose I am, but really I'm attending a social conference where we all have a similar objective, to teach learn, and observe being social on the Internet.
